Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

Dave’s Favourite Resort Hotel

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise
111 Lake Louise Drive
Lake Louise
Alberta, Canada   T0L 1E0
Website:  www.fairmont.com/lake-louise/
Suggested Room Categories:  One Bedroom Lakeview Suite

Standard rooms at this property are small, so I recommend booking a suite.  For any category of room at this property, I also recommend choosing a lake view.  This is the only hotel right at Lake Louise, and the view is stunning.  If you’re going to stay right on the lake, you might as well enjoy the beautiful view from breakfast to bedtime!

Expected Price Range:  (CAD) $1,400 to $1,800 per night (plus taxes of 11.18%)

This price range is for the suggested room categories noted above.  You can expect to pay a bit less if you forego the lake view and could save a little more if you opt for a standard room vs. a suite, but I don’t recommend either of those downgrades.  The above prices assume travel during peak period from June through September. Unfortunately, with recent demand being high, and occupancy being near 100% in peak season, finding promotional rates and discounts is difficult. Even the CAA/AAA rates have been suspended for the summer months. There are promotional rates available, including some good discounts if staying in the off-season.

If you are a Premier or Platinum member in the Fairmont Presidents Club, this is an ideal property to redeem upgrade and free night certificates.  A suite upgrade certificate will allow you to pay for a Mountain View King Room and upgrade to a Mountain View Jr. Suite or pay for a Lakeview King Room and upgrade to a Lakeview Jr. Suite.  You may also book a Deluxe Room (mountain or lake view) and upgrade into a 1-Bedroom Suite (mountain or lake view).  You may combine the upgrade certificate with a free night or third night free certificate.  However, recent changes at this property do not allow you to use a free night certificate against room or suite with a lake view.

A recent change in policies now includes daily breakfast and complimentary parking with any stay in a suite category.

Room Quality:

Historic properties like the Chateau Lake Louise, which is more than 100 years old, are often charming but showing many signs of wear.  However, the Chateau Lake Louise is exceptionally well maintained, with guest rooms renovated to modern standards, while still maintaining their historic charm and detail.  Below is a gallery of images taken from the rooms we stayed in at the Chateau.

A Special Treat:

If you feel like splurging for a special occasion, then you may even consider booking the Marquis de Lorne Signature Lakeview Suite on the Gold floor, which is described on the Chateau Lake Louise website as “the finest suite in the hotel”.  We stayed in this suite for 4 nights and enjoyed it immensely.  The expected price range quoted above does not apply to this suite.  Below are some photos of this remarkable suite from our stay.

Common Areas:

The common areas of the hotel are grand.  The Chateau Lake Louise brings elegance and luxury to the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains.  Below is a gallery of images taken from the grounds and common areas of the Chateau.

Location:

The Chateau Lake Louise is ideally located right on the shore of Lake Louise, and is the only hotel on the lake.  Situated in the centre of Banff National Park, the hotel is located in the heart of some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere on earth.

The closest major airport is Calgary International Airport (YYC), which is about a 2-hour drive to the east along the Trans-Canada highway #1.

Dining:

The Chateau Lake Louise has seven restaurants on the property, each offering something different.  All of the restaurants are fairly expensive, but the service and quality are excellent.  From fine dining with an unbeatable view in the Fairview (formerly the Lakeview Dining Room) to picking up a picnic lunch in the 24-hour Chateau Deli, there is plenty of choice available.  Visit the hotel website to see the menus of each restaurant.  Unfortunately, the downside of having such a wonderful location in a remote setting, means limited dining options in the area outside of the hotel restaurants.

Additional Information:

Fairmont has prepared the promotional videos below of this fabulous property, featuring the hotel and the year-round beauty of the surrounding area. This property needs to be experienced in both Winter and Summer.
