Quite literally, today will be a very long day for us. In fact, Friday, April 30 will last a full 41 hours due to the time zone change. Of that time, nearly 14 hours will be spent sitting in a United Airlines 747. We’ll leave Sydney around 2:45 PM and arrive in San Francisco around 11:00 AM the same day.
Hopefully, we’ll get some sleep on the plane. They’re fully lie-flat seats, so I’m hopeful we’ll arrive at least partially refreshed. We booked seats on the upper level bubble of the plane, which should be a bit quieter, as there are fewer seats up there than on the main level.
I’m writing this update from the Star Alliance lounge (operated by Air New Zealand here) at Sydney airport, which by the way, is a very nice airport. After we passed through security, they had a shopping complex that would rival most suburban shopping malls back home.
We should be boarding in about a half-hour. The next update will be written from San Francisco. It was a great trip so far, but I’m looking forward to getting back home (after seeing a bit of San Francisco if we have the energy).
