Day 6 – Whistler to Vancouver

Today is the day we leave Whistler and head for Vancouver for our flight Calgary. As our flight is the following morning, we’re in no particular rush to leave Whistler, however, the weather today is giving us nothing but rain. Therefore, we decided to head out to Vancouver shortly after breakfast. We didn’t stop at the many scenic sites along the highway, as mother nature just isn’t cooperating. If it’s not the rain, it’s the thick fog!

We arrived in Vancouver, and while the rain has mostly stopped, we thought we’d see a bit of Vancouver under its overcast skies, including stopping for lunch at Granville Island.

After lunch, we continued to browse around the market. Below, Nadine looks for some snacks to take back to the hotel.

After spending a couple of hours at Granville Island, we drove around Vancouver a bit before heading to our hotel. For convenience of our flight tomorrow, we’re staying at the Fairmont in the Vancouver Airport. This allows us to drop the rental car today, basically at our hotel, and store all of our luggage and ski equipment with the hotel bellman, ready for the flight tomorrow. This certainly beats having an additional move and lugging everything from a downtown hotel.

We got settled in our room, with a nice view across the runways and with the ocean in the distance.

I was surprised by the hotel facilities, which include an indoor pool, considering that we’re in an airport. After some exploring, we had a late dinner at the airport and relaxed for the evening.

Day 5 – Skiing Again

We had another bright and sunny day, so the plan for today was the same as yesterday… more skiing!

Here’s Nadine taking a rest at the side of one of the runs.

We skied briefly in the 7th Heaven area of Blackcomb on our first day, and didn’t get a chance to go back there yesterday, as it was closed for avalanche risk for much of the day. Today it was open again, and I did a few runs up there.

When it was time for lunch, we again headed to the Rendezvous restaurant on Blackcomb.

As time moved into the late afternoon, we decided to call it quits and head back to the hotel to get cleaned up. This would be our last full day in Whistler, and we returned to Whistler village in the evening for our final dinner here.

We walked around Whistler village at night for a short while, and then returned to the hotel to start packing up. Tomorrow morning we return to Vancouver before moving on to the Rockies portion of our ski vacation!

Day 4 – More Skiing

The plan for today was simple.  Get up early, grab breakfast, and get on the slopes just as they’re opening for the day.

After leaving the ski valet at the hotel, we headed for the Wizard lift. Fortunately, the line ups from 2 days ago were completely gone!

The skies were clear and blue, and it was looking like today would be a great day.

We skied for the remainder of the day on Blackcomb mountain, stopping only for a lunch break late in the afternoon. Here are a few more photos from the day.
